Lunch At Lunya

Lunya has been around for a year or two, establishing itself, not only as a respected restaurant, but also a well stocked and interesting deli. It’s rare for me to come across any negative comments about Lunya, indeed what I mainly hear is rave reviews. I’d been there once before and found the food to be very good, but with a few technical issues, the bread (as is typical for me) being foremost in my thoughts as something that needed work. This week, while wandering through town, a friend and I passed Lunya thinking about getting some lunch, the offer of three plates of tapas and bread for £9.95 proved too tempting to walk past.

Mixed seafood salad and serrano ham

The service in Lunya was friendly and quick, we were seated immediately and began perusing what was a diverse menu for a lunch time. Sometimes lunch menus do not quite offer the choice I’d like, with an array of compromised dishes providing little interest, this was clearly not the case, with a broad range of hot and cold tapas and salads. The mixed seafood salad, was soft and sweet, a further squeeze of lemon juice would’ve suite my tastes. The serrano ham was soft, sweet and nutty, and indicative of the quality produce available in the Deli, and patatas bravas was excellent. These dished were classic tapas, centred around quality produce.

Patatas bravas and Spanish scouse

Jamon croquetas

The catalan scouse hinted at the more inventive dished on the main restaurant menu, this was soft rich and nice chewy chunks of chorizo and morcilla, a nice warming dish on a chilly autumn day. The jamon croquetas were another traditional dish, a thick rich béchamel sauce (I know thats a french term, I’m not sure of the spanish) with ham, it’s bread crumbed and fried, they were creamy, salt and very good, another great plate of comforting food for the colder part of the year.  The bread was of little note, and really not worth discussion, however in comparison to rest of the meal it clearly lacked the same quality.

Inside the jamon croquetas

Lunya’s main menu is more inventive than the dished available during the day, the lunch menu seems to focus more on classic spanish tapas rather than the fusion food available in the evening. This, however, should not be seen an any form of criticism, lunch is well cooked food made with quality produce. At £9.95, it comes in at a similar price to other restaurant offering lunch time deals, and is a great meal for the price. I have to agree with all the reviews I hear, Lunya is a quality restaurant serving very good food.

*Very sorry about the awful photos today, I will try harder in future
